CHI 2025 UXR POV Workshop
Call for submissions
Extension - February 28th
Call for Papers
A User Experience Research Point of View (UXR PoV) is a perspective based on data, evidence, and insight that shapes how you observe, interpret, and represent the needs of your target users. We need to equip UX Practitioners with the essential tools needed to develop and articulate a persuasive PoV. Our mission is to support professionals in preparing and establishing a compelling narrative that aligns with the needs of their stakeholders. We are developing a UXR playbook that defines a set of plays and instructions for practitioners to build, establish, and land a compelling UX Research POV.
Authors are invited to submit a paper to the CHI Workshop on “Defining a UX Research Point of View (POV)” to further develop the initial UXR PoV playbook. We are interested in UX case studies, plays, and best practices that can be embedded into the playbook.
Note that submissions do not need to be in the form of a complete POV — the goal of the workshop is to extract the use case and best practices for practitioners to leverage in the future.
Selected papers will be used as exemplar case studies during the workshop.
Primary submission: consists of an extended abstract in the ACM Master Article Submission Templates (single column; 4-8 pages, excluding references).
Secondary submission: submit a one-page statement of interest for consideration, including your interest/related experience, relevant case-studies, methods/best practices, and anticipated contribution to the workshop.
Submissions by email (.docx or .pdf format) to hdogan@bournemouth.ac.uk & stephengiff@gmail.com
Submissions will be accepted up until February 13th February 28th, 2025
The workshop proceedings will be published via ArXiv. At least one author of each accepted submission must attend the workshop. Participants must register for both the workshop and for at least one day of the conference.

Workshop Overview
This in-person workshop will be divided into two main parts:
Part one aims to inspire creativity and expand participant perspectives on User Experience Research (UXR). It will include an introduction to the workshop’s objectives, keynote, paper presentations by academic and industry leaders discussing UXR success stories and latest industry trends.
In part two, participants will be divided into three subgroups and assigned a preselected use case. Each subgroup will be facilitated by one of the workshop organisers. The group will then analyse the use case, carefully examining it to identify the key challenges, opportunities, and potential impact. Note that organisers will work directly with the authors of selected papers before the session to identify key questions that will be used to generate the breakout activities, preparing them to move through the four stages of building a Point of View: Foundation >> Data >> Insight Generation >> POV.
Participants will then apply the UXR POV framework, mapping the selected use case, and identifying the appropriate strategies. Based on their analysis and application of the framework, the breakout group will brainstorm and develop specific strategies and tactics that can be used to achieve an impactful UXR POV.
They will use a template to create visual representations of their strategies and tactics in the form of cards. Once all breakout groups have completed their work, they will share their findings and cards with the rest of the workshop participants, fostering collaboration and learning.
Post Workshop Activities
Publish use cases, plays, and play cards to UXR POV Playbook Website - https://www.uxrpovplaybook.com.
Publish Workshop Proceedings via ArXiv.
Publish an article sharing plays and extending requests for additional plays in ACM Interactions Magazine, or similar.
Write an article for The Conversation, a media outlet publishing articles written by academics and researchers. This will summarize the outcomes of the workshop.
